Certain foods may contain substances that make your ability to cope with anxiety disorder more difficult. Some of them contain substances that influence mood and behavior. They can interfere with certain medications that are required to maintain your mental health. These foods are readily available in Nigeria in large quantities. You can find them in many streets and some people can make some of them at home.


Food refers to substances - solid or liquid form that adds nourishment to the body but these foods to be discussed here will do the exact opposite of what is expected especially if you have anxiety.





1. Sodas


Sugar-sweetened drinks can increase sugar in the blood. Blood sugar increases when you consume them and when it falls in the blood, it affects mood and makes the body become weak. Sodas appear to refresh your mood at first when consumed but when their level drops your mood weakens as well and it is not good for anxiety disorder.




2. Toast White Flour bread


Since white flour is processed, it increases the level of blood sugar that causes an imbalance in the energy level of a person as it increases and decreases in the blood. If you cannot do without bread, you can take any other type except the ones made with white Flour and sweetened with sugar




3. Coffee

Coffee contains caffeine, a substance that alters the mood and can make people nervous. It can affect sleep and is considered unsuitable for people that have an anxiety disorder. You should consider replacing your early morning coffee drink to avoid worsening symptoms of anxiety disorder



4. Cakes

They contain trans-fat from hydrogenated oils which affect your mood. A scientific study has shown that trans-fat in the brain can worsen the symptoms of anxiety. It was a conclusion drawn from a scientific experiment involving rats. More symptoms of anxiety and panic were observed in those with higher trans-fat



5. Doughnuts

Doughnuts have different types of fats because they are made using white flour and a lot of sugar. The combination can worsen the symptoms of anxiety disorder. Due to its high sugar content, you are likely to experience a drop in the level of blood sugar. The sugar in the doughnut that you ate enters your blood and its presence at a high level prompts more production of insulin. Insulin reduces the sugar causing a drop in blood sugar This reaction is responsible for anxious feelings and other symptoms of anxiety disorder.
